BES Summer Reading Suggestions Grade 1

Welcome to first grade! You’ve worked very hard to make progress with your reading this year and it’s important to keep reading over the summer and continue to make progress.  Some of the books are good read aloud books to share with mom and dad and some of the books you can read all by yourself! Have a great summer and we’ll see you in August!

The Five Forks Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library is located across the street from Ronald Reagan Park. They will be offering summer reading programs all summer long. If you didn’t sign up online with your class at Brookwood E.S. you can go to your library to get started with all of the summer fun.

Visit: www.scholastic.com/summer  and you can be part of a world record effort!  The website keeps track of the number of minutes you have read and lets you compete against other readers in other schools just like we did for World Math!

 

Other Ways to Enjoy Reading This Summer:

·        Start a book club with your friends.

·        Images are copyrighted. Contact the CSLP for more information.Listen to a book being read aloud.

·        Take turns reading to a friend or parent.

·        Read the book by yourself and tell someone about your favorite parts.

·        Record yourself reading a book and listen to the tape or watch the video.

·        Make a list of the books you have read and rate them.

·        Visit the public library.

·        Check out poetry books and make copies of your favorite poems.

·        Keep a reading journal and write down what you are thinking about while you read.

·        Draw or paint pictures about what you’ve read.

·        Be creative all summer long.
