Grading and
"E" Opportunities |
|
|
Grading Policies for Art, Math Enrichment,
Music, and P.E. During each nine weeks in the specials classes, students will
earn a grade on their mastery of the subject and an assessment of their
conduct. While the details of each
grade are determined by the individual teacher, all of the specialists will
follow these general policies. Grade: E: A student earns an E by completing an activity outside of
class time, as directed by the individual teacher, and by meeting the
Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) standards for their grade level. S: The student meets the AKS standards. N: The student is working below AKS standards. U: The student does not meet the AKS standards. Conduct: If a student chooses not to follow the rules or causes a
disruption to the class they will receive a warning. If the behavior
continues, the student will receive a check, and receive a conduct slip noting
the behavior issue. In certain cases of safety, a warning may not be given.
This will be sent home to be signed by a parent and returned to school. If
problems continue, the student’s class conduct grade may be negatively
affected. In certain cases of safety, a warning may not be given. A final
consequence is losing the privilege of coming to specials. Class rules in
specials include: 1.
Show respect for
all students and adults. 2.
Follow directions. 3.
Be responsible for
school property. 4.
No dangerous behavior. E: The student always participates, both individually and in
group situations, maintains eye contact, listens, is respectful, and arrives
prepared for class with all necessary materials. S: The student generally participates, is respectful, and is
prepared most of the time. N: The student is often off-task, unprepared, and/or
uncooperative. U: The student is disrespectful, does not participate, and
often requires teacher redirection. E Opportunities All students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will have the opportunity to earn an "E" in Art for each of the four grading periods. I encourage all students to spend some time outside of art class learning more about art! Here's how to get your E: |
|
Students must first earn an "E" in Art by putting forth maximum effort on their art classroom assignments and maintaining good behavior. If a student is willing to put forth some extra effort outside of class they will have an opportunity to earn an "E" grade in art by doing ONE of the following: |
|
1)
Research a visual artist or art style (see
below) and write 10 sentences or facts you learned;
explaining who the artist is, when and where they lived, what type of art
they created, and any additional interesting facts about the artist.
These papers should be at least 10
sentences. Papers can be typed or handwritten but under no circumstance should reports be
copied directly from a book or internet site. Students should learn
about the artist and then put that knowledge into their own words.
Students may choose the artist on their own, check the choices listed here or come talk to me for suggestions. Forms for E
reports can be found in the art and music rooms at school. Students
may also choose to write about a type of art such as photography, ceramics,
printmaking, etc., a specific work of art, an art
career, or a style of art such as Pop Art, Cave Art, Pointillism,
Impressionism etc. |
|
2)
Students may also get an E by visiting an art museum and
reporting on that experience with |
|
3)
Students who enter the Reflections contest, in an art category, or
another art contest will receive an E. |

DUE DATES
for 2011-2012 1st nine weeks – September 30, 2011 |

A student will need to do one of these options for each 9 week grading period that they want to earn a E. I will try to keep all students informed of approaching deadlines as the end of the grading period approaches. Dates will always be posted on the board in the art room. I look forward to helping your children learn more about the Wonderful World of Art! Please feel free to see me if you have any questions. |
