Mission Statement

          It is my mission to provide all students with a quality art education by providing opportunities to learn about, experiment with, and explore their world. Process-oriented learning, in which students can learn a skill or procedure and then transfer that knowledge to other applications, is an important part of my teaching.  My role as a teacher is to inspire students to continue learning and exploring after they leave my class, through a variety of mediums. The medium I use primarily is art. My love of art dates back to my early childhood and I have a strong desire to share the enthusiasm and passion I feel for art, with children.  I want to get students to take risks with their art, experiment with new skills, and think "outside the box" in new and original ways.  I want them to learn that often times, despite what they may learn in school, there is no one right way of doing things.  I want my students to be creative problem solvers because those kinds of people are the ones who can make a positive change in the world.  My primary mission in education is for my students to experiment and explore the world with a sense of wonder, creativity, and fun, so that they, too, can find their life's passion. 
          I feel that my secondary purpose in teaching is to inspire students and build their confidence and self-esteem through art.  The arts provide experiences that encourage all students to take part in their own learning.  Students can experience success when given the opportunity to demonstrate their learning and knowledge through the different means and methods that the arts can provide.  I seek to provide a way for students to feel pride and empowerment by getting them actively involved in learning new tools and skills, thereby creating a sense of accomplishment through art.  I strive to show all students that with some hard work and effort, they can do amazing things!


 

This year in art...
Students will be learning about the elements of art which include: line, shape, color, texture, shape, value, form and space.  They will also be using the principles of design that include patterns, rhythm, balance, emphasis, variety, harmony, and unity. Students will explore different media include drawing, painting, fiber, clay, colored pencils, oil pastels, pen, markers, and printmaking.  We will be learning about some famous artists and their work as well as talking about how art relates to the world around us. 

As you can see, it will be a busy year!
